Chairman

For over 40 years Colin has provided commercial advice to a range of businesses and ventures which not only include accountancy firms and law practices but also to large corporations including television networks, and international sporting events. 

From 1984 to 1990, he was Corporate Counsel and head of Legal & Business for Polygram Australia (now Universal Music), overseeing the Group’s legal work for the recording, home video and publishing divisions. This work included managing complex deal negotiations with groups such as the TV and radio industries. 

Colin then became co-partner in Simpsons Solicitors, where amongst other areas he specialised in commercial transaction law. Clients included The Wiggles, Polygram Records (now Universal Music Group), Warner Music Publishing and MCA Music Publishing. In 1998 he sold his half of the practice to establish a specialist commercial advice consultancy.

Colin has also been a part time law lecturer in graduate degree courses, teaching commercial and business management subjects including intellectual property law, media law, cross-border money management and venture structuring.

In addition Colin was a sitting Member on the Ethics Committee for the Law Society of New South Wales.

As the Director and Principal Solicitor at Ellis Geering & Rosen Lawyers (EGR Law), Kristjan Geering brings a wealth of legal expertise and leadership to our team. 

With a passion for navigating the complexities of commercial legal issues as well as general practice law not only for businesses but individuals as well, Kristjan is dedicated to providing strategic guidance to clients.

Ellis Geering & Rosen Lawyers (EGR Law) was conceived and created by Bill and then jointly founded with Kristjan as both offer differing specialised skills that has seen EGR Law grow into the successful law firm it is today. 

Bill is originally from a pastoral grazing family in far-west NSW and brings his "country style" candidness and practicalities to the firm.. Although "from the bush" Bill was educated in Sydney at college and university. Mainly known for his long career in personal injury compensation with several prominent plaintiff law firms in Sydney, his diverse commercial experience has taken him from Sydney to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Hong Kong and Melbourne and his expertise spans international property, wholesale mortgages, retail franchises, personal injury compensation litigation and corporate and personal insolvency.

Beyond his professional commercial experience, Bill kept a strong connection with his old college and for many years, he held senior positions on their Old Boys Executive Committee and served as their Honorary Solicitor. 

Legal Clerk / Litigation Assistant

Kelvin Wu brings a strong academic grounding and a sharp legal mind to EGR Law. Soon to enter his final year of law at the University of Technology Sydney, Kelvin is based in our head office Sydney CBD office. Kelvin has proven himself to be an exceptional Legal Clerk and Litigation Assistant, working closely with principal Kristjan Geering and firm partner Bill Mackay, on a diverse and high-volume case load of commercial matters from across Australia.

Kelvin plays a vital role in the firm’s commercial practice, regularly supporting daily appearances in the Federal Court alongside Kristjan and assisting both senior and junior barristers in complex Supreme Court matters. His responsibilities span legal research, affidavit and document drafting, direct client communication, and inter-office coordination with EGR Law’s regional and interstate teams.

Known for his attention to matters and a calm professionalism, Kelvin has quickly become a valued member of the EGR Law team. His practical understanding of legal processes, combined with a genuine commitment to client service, has made a strong impression on both colleagues and clients alike.

Office Manager

Penny Mackay brings a wealth of experience and operational insight to her role as Office Manager at EGR Law. With a long-standing career managing high-performing teams in Sydney CBD commercial litigation firms and prominent accountancy practices in Melbourne, Penny ensures the day-to-day operations of EGR Law run with precision and efficiency.

Known for her calm leadership, attention to detail, and unshakeable dedication to client service, Penny plays a central role in overseeing staff support, practice administration, and client engagement processes. Her hands-on experience across both legal and financial disciplines makes her an invaluable asset to the firm’s multidisciplinary approach.

Married to firm co-founder and partner Bill Mackay, Penny often jokes that she has “lived and breathed commercial law matters for decades”—a statement well supported by her deep understanding of the demands, pressures, and nuances of legal practice. Her steady presence and practical wisdom are foundational to the EGR Law team’s cohesion and professionalism.

Ray brings more than 40 years’ experience in client management across the accounting, financial services and business advisory sectors. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Applied Economics and is ASIC-compliant in the provision of financial advice.

Throughout his career, Ray has worked closely with both professional industry advisors and clients alike, providing trusted support in financial planning, client relationship management and business operations. He brings to EGR Law a depth of practical experience, a strong client-focused approach and a calm, considered manner, supporting clients as they navigate complex financial and commercial matters.
